Job Description

Develop and apply concepts and strategic thinking, theoretical frameworks, appropriate methodologies and techniques of ophthalmic epidemiology that aligns with the updated guidelines and instruction of Ministry of Health and KKESH Research Department. Including overall implementation of direction, the immunology-related research work.

 Education / Licensure/ Professional Experience:

    • Master’s Degree, or PhD Degree in Science/ Health or an equivalent specialty relevant to the research field requirement (i.e. in Biology or Microbiology, Biochemistry, Health Care and Epidemiology) from an accredited university (Essential).
    • Minimum of Six (6) years working in conducting research post Master’s or PhD qualification experience (Essential).
    • Experience in vision research (Desirable).
    • Classification from SCFHS (Essential).

Requirements and Responsibilities

  • Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Plans, develop and implement short and long term strategic goals of the research activities.

Develops strategic plan for ophthalmic epidemiology that aligns with the updated guidelines and instruction of Ministry of Health and KKESH Research Department.

Work with the Department of Health Education and Medical Education Departments to develop health educational materials, presentation and generates support for increasing the awareness in the community regarding prevention of blinding eye diseases.

Undertakes operational research and national surveys to generate information on eye diseases in collaboration with international agencies and Ministry of Health.

Trains ophthalmology Residents, Fellows, Research Trainees and KKESH staff in the principles of research.

Manage research projects and provide guidance to project team members to deliver all key project milestones and outcomes.

Oversee all aspects of project planning, development and implementation for a range of projects, including developing research project plans, coordinating resources, managing budgets, meeting reporting requirements, and supporting project-related activities, to ensure project outcomes are achieved on time, on budget, to quality standards and within agreed scope in line with established KKESH projects management methodology.

Monitor and evaluate all aspects of project implementation, including risk and contingency management, benefits realisation, project impact and quality measures, to identify and address issues, assess project progress and effectiveness, and achieve project outcomes.

Preparing presentations, writing reports of research findings, conclusions, and making recommendations for further work, as required.

Prepare statistical report for Department of Research on monthly basis as directed by the Director and Associate Director of Research.

Active in publishing original research papers in peer reviewed journals with at least six (6) publications per year.

Works with all Medical Staff and trainees in developing projects that could be used for their thesis and for publications. At least twelve (12) research projects per month.

Liaise with the prevention of blindness unit of MOH to strengthen public health program for prevention of blindness.

Submit on online grant at King Abdul-Aziz City For Science and Technology (KACST) website in the area of epidemiology.

Promotes participation and attendance of Research Laboratory personnel in continuing education programs.

Performs all duties in a professional, effective and confidential manner.

Performs all other related duties as required or assigned.
