Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Visits each patient daily to assess individual needs for play / recreational activities after receiving report from the Charge Nurse / designee; seeks clarification of patient’s status and medical condition prior to making bedside rounds; consults with Charge Nurse to determine patients requiring active encouragement in activity programs; ensures that NPO patients are kept fasting if doing play activities.
2.Involves family / companion in the planning of play activities; discusses and agrees plan with Charge Nurse / RN and companion; offers appropriate toys, books, and cassettes based on assessment of age, stage of development and medical condition.
3.Seeks feedback from RN / family / companion on response of child to play activity; observes children at play and relays pertinent observations to the Nursing Unit Manager, Charge Nurse and / or RN; relays family concerns expressed about the patients to the Nursing Unit Manager / Charge Nurse.
4.Plans appropriate programs for different age groups in the play room and at the bedside; develops and submits a calendar to the Nursing Unit Manager / Charge Nurse for approval.
5.Maintains a safe environment while supervising ‘free play’ among children in the playroom; immediately reports problems concerning the condition or behavior of children, safety concerns or unusual occurrences to the Nursing Unit Manager / Charge Nurse.
6.Establishes and maintains daily playroom hours and structure (as per the department needs)
7.Maintains an accurate list of all available toys in the play room and those left at the bedside of patients who are on restricted activity; monitors condition of toys and initiates repairs as needed, cleans / disinfects toys weekly using established guidelines. Removes toys that pose a safety hazard until the toy has been evaluated by the Nursing Unit Manager / Charge Nurse.
8.Assesses playroom supply needs and evaluates inventory of toys / recreation supplies; submits a list of required items to the Nursing Unit Manager / Charge Nurse.
9.Performs all duties in a professional, effective, and confidential manner.
10.Performs all other duties as required or assigned.
المتطلبات والمسؤوليات
Qualifications and Professional Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-School Education/Psychology, Special Education or equivalent from an accredited university with minimum of one (1) year experience with young children in an organized setting (Essential).
Current First Aid certification (Essential).
Specialized Knowledge:
Knowledgeable of:
Appropriate safety precautions and procedures (Essential)..
Basic child psychology (Desirable)
Planning and selection of play activities (Essential).
Fluency in oral and written English language (Essential).
Good standard of knowledge in medical terminology (Essential)
