Medical Laboratory Technologist

Performs assigned procedures in an accurate and timely manner including all routine and special procedures and those listed on the approved Laboratory STAT list.

Performs and documents daily Quality Control according to Laboratory and Section Technical Procedure Manuals.

Operates equipment, performs and documents daily, weekly, monthly and unscheduled preventive maintenance of all instrumentation and equipment in their assigned Section and in all Sections in weekend duty, as required.

Organizes the Section workload in an efficient and orderly manner comprehensible by co-workers for completion.

Communicates any out-of-control values and malfunctioning equipment with Section Senior Medical Technologist.

Maintains a sufficient fund of knowledge and procedural familiarity to be able to accurately perform and interpret the results obtained.

Performs Proficiency Survey materials confidentially to assure unbiased results and analyzes these results for acceptability when returned.

Participates in the training of Technical Trainees and the orientation of new employees in the Section of assignment.

Reviews work and CALL schedule assignments and works on duty as assigned, being responsible for notifying the Section Supervisor of any scheduled or anticipated absence.

Communicates any inventory shortage with Section Supervisor and/or Laboratory Coordination.

Assumes Phlebotomy duty assignments, scheduled or requested by the Section Supervisor.

Maintains a professional behavior and appearance at all times while interacting with patients, Physicians, Nursing Staff, other Hospital personnel.

Adheres to established Hospital policies, procedures, and safety precautions.

Maintains confidentiality of all Laboratory Medical Records at all times.

Participates in In-Service and Continuing Education programs on a regular basis both as an attendee and as a program presenter.

Observes Body Substance Isolation techniques at all times.

Adheres to JCI & CBAHI Laboratory Standards for good Laboratory practice at all times.

Participates in Continuing Quality Improvement monitoring and projects.

Participates in Laboratory Environmental Monitoring.
