The Optometry Specialist-Screening in the Outpatient Services (OPS) is responsible for performing assigned duties as an Assistant to the Ophthalmologist with whom he/ she works. The Optometrist Specialist-Screener utilizes knowledge and specialized skills to assess the ophthalmic and general health condition and needs of pediatric, adult and geriatric patients; provides clinical and communication assistance to the Ophthalmologists; applies Optometry skills when required and, ensures that patients understand the clinical and general aspects related to their care at KKESH.

Bachelor’s Degree in Optometry or equivalent from an accredited university (Essential).
Valid Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) Classification and Registration in good standing (Essential).
1. Accepts/completes assignments throughout the OPC, ER, and Screening Clinic as directed by the team leader and/or Clinic Supervisor. |
2. Enters the patient data into the Health Information System (HIS) and makes sure that the patients seen in the clinic are arrived/ registered correctly in the HIS. |
3. Performs accurate ophthalmic screening/assessment for the patient and properly documents such findings. |
4. Applies the recommended International Patient Safety Goals (IPSG) in his/her daily activities and uses two ways to identify the patient in the clinic in accordance with the JCIA standards. |
5. Assists the Ophthalmologist with patient examinations and procedures as appropriate/necessary. |
6. Assists the patient in understanding what will be done during the clinic visit. |
7. Provides bilingual interpretation during examinations, treatments, procedures and other staff/patient interactions and does not permit interpretation by the patient's companion. |
8. Administers/assists in administering eye drops and medications, and documents such activities in compliance with the applicable policies and procedures. |
9. Assists in evaluation of patients’ understanding, educational needs and in implementing patient/family teaching as appropriate. |
10. Provides guidance in getting to and returning from, any other appropriate OPS and/or KKESH service/departments, etc. |
11. Ensures that the patient understands all appropriate ophthalmic clinical instructions upon completion of the clinic visit. |
12. Assumes responsibility for his/her own continuing education and rofessional development, and attends applicable OPS and KKESH in-service programs. |
13. Performs IOP measurement by applanation on a regular basis. |
14. Performs all technical procedures including corneal topography and covers this area when needed. |
15. Performs Optometry skills and cover the Optometry Division when needed. |
16. Performs all duties in a professional, effective and confidential manner. |
17. Performs all other duties as assigned and/or required. |
