Responsible for organizing and directing the Relevant Section by initiating requisition of supplies, reagents and materials for the efficient operation of the Section. Coordinates the activity of the Section such as work assignment, supply requisition, instrument maintenance and repair and communication with the Medical and Nursing Staff of the Hospital.
- Education / Licensure:
- Master Degree in Medical Technology, Laboratory Sciences, Microbiology or equivalent from an accredited institute (Essential).
- Classification and Registration in Medical Laboratory or equivalent from SCFHS (Essential).
- Professional Experience:
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience working in the capacity of Laboratory Technologist/Specialist in an accredited medical laboratory. (Essential)

- Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. |
Performs procedures assigned in an accurate and timely manner including all routine and special procedures and those listed on the approved Laboratory STAT list. |

2. |
Performs and documents daily, weekly, monthly and unscheduled preventive maintenance of all instrumentation and equipment in their assigned Section. |
|
3. |
Organizes the Section workload in an efficient and orderly manner which is comprehensible by co-workers who may have to complete the work. |
|
4. |
Communicates to section Supervisor any out-of-control Quality Control values and equipment malfunction. |
|
5. |
Maintains a sufficient fund of knowledge and procedural familiarity to be able to accurately perform and interpret the results obtained for accuracy. |
|
6. |
Maintains specimens and records as required by their section standards and hospital regulations. |
|
7. |
Maintains confidentiality of patient results and Medical Records at all times. |
|
8. |
Reviews work and call schedule assignments and takes duty as assigned, being responsible for notifying the Supervisor of any schedule changes or anticipated absence. |
|
9. |
Observes Body Substance Isolation techniques at all times. |
|
10. |
Participates in the training of technical trainees and orientation of new employees in the section of assignment. |
|
11. |
Adheres to JCIA Laboratory Standards for good Laboratory practice at all times. |
|
12. |
Participates in the In-Service and Continuing Education programs on a regular basis both as attendee and program presenter. |
|
13. |
Participates in Continuing Quality Improvement monitoring and projects. |
|
14. |
Participates in Laboratory Environmental Monitoring. |
|
15. |
Performs manual routine and special procedures in their specific area. |
|
16. |
Operates and maintains automated analyzers and instruments. |
|
17. |
Performs routine and special procedures using automated instruments. |
|
18. |
Performs and maintain competency on “On-Call” procedure. |
|
19. |
Identifies and implements updated equipment, instrumentation and methods. |
|
20. |
Coordinates Activities with Section Supervisor. |
