Vision Impairment Rehabilitation Specialist

To signpost and or refer individuals to partners in local authority, health service, education service, welfare and employment services, voluntary sector and other community services.

Provide vision impairment awareness training for KKESH, volunteers to ensure they have the relevant practical guiding skills and knowledge of vision impairment needed to carry out their roles.

To assess and recommend minor works of adaptation for the patients who are visually impaired that he can implement at home, school, university, or his work environment.

To develop planned programs of  training to develop  independence in indoor and outdoor mobility environments, including training in guiding skills, pre-cane, long cane, orientation (including specialist equipment), and route planning techniques.

Discussing issues related to parenting skills for blind parents of sighted children and sighted parents of visually impaired children.

Providing information on specialist equipment such as talking clocks, modified kitchen appliances and adapted computers,

Keep written records, produce reports, and attend meetings and case meetings. They liaise with members of social services teams, as well as with ophthalmologists, optometrists and other professionals.

To comply with safeguarding and risk management procedures to ensure that all visually impaired patients safety and wellbeing are safe guard.

Makes available pamphlets, films and other public information materials that may be useful in developing awareness information for families and the public.

The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Demonstrates ability to create recreation services for the visually impaired patients through summer programs, courses and campaigns and fun activities for both adults and children.

Performs all duties in a professional, effective and confidential manner.

Performs all other related duties as required or assigned.
