Job Description

 

Position Summary:

  • Providing the needed protection to Hospital staff/patients/guests’ lives and property from fire and other disasters by participating in different rescue teams. Requirements and Responsibilities

Qualifications:

  •   High School Certificate with at least two (2) years’ experience in Firefighting/ Safety or any related field .

OR,

  • Two (2) years Diploma in Firefighting/ Safety or equivalent from an accredited institute .

  Certification from the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH)/ Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)/ Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)/ National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) or equivalent training (Essential)

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to emergencies and disasters at the Hospital and housing compound.
  • Quickly responds to Code Red, Code Blue, Lift Intercom Communications, fire alarms in various locations, and other control room monitoring systems.
  • Operate firefighting and rescue equipment. Fight and extinguish fires using appropriate firefighting equipment (i.e., water pump, extinguisher, etc.)
  • Lifts, carries, drags, lays, and connects hose lines from hydrants and equipment to scene; carry equipment, tools, and other equipment from vehicle to scene.
  • Raises and climbs ladders; crawls and walks on roofs and floors.
  • Fights fire by holding nozzles and directing streams of fog, chemicals, or water, and moving into fire area including into confined spaces and up or down stairs.
  • Will drive emergency vehicles to perform tasks and respond to situations.
  • Move people from danger, including transporting unconscious victims to safety.
  • Coordinate with other firefighters as a member of the crew.
  • Clean and maintain department equipment and structures through cleaning walls, floors, fire hose and other firefighting equipment; clean and maintain personal protective equipment and keep it ready for use.
  • Maintains personal physical fitness consistent with department standards.
  • Provides “Fire Watch Standby” to any hot work by maintenance personnel. 
  • Conducts periodic inspecting and testing of firefighting equipment and systems at the Hospital and housing compound.
  • Performs other inspection and testing tasks as assigned, with minimal supervision.
  • Follows orders and directives from assigned supervisors.
  • Performs all duties in a professional, effective and confidential manner.
