Job Description

Qualifications:

Education / Licensure/ Professional Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Radiology Science/Technology from an accredited university with minimum of five (5) year experience working in the capacity of Radiology Technologist (Essential).               Radiation Safety Officer RSO Licensed by Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission (Essential).

Requirements and Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1.Compliance with applicable professional standards, laws, and regulations;Implementing safety measures on a regular basis                                                                      

2.Development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient operation of the programs /projects                                                                     

3.Determine compliance with rules and regulations, license conditions and the conditions of projects approval specified by the radiation safety                                                               

4.Works with leaderships, individual principal investigators in the development and implementation of new proposals within the Radiation Safety Program                                                                      

5.Advises leadership on technical and regulatory issues regarding the strategic direction of the Radiation Safety Program                                                                              

6.Training and ongoing education for new procedures, new equipment, and newly acquired or recognized hazardous materials; Ensuring that staff members are aware of new developments in radiation safety practices and technology                                                                               

7.Conducting Radiation Safety Training Courses for staff members who may be exposed to radiation or involved in operations that involve radioactive materials or equipment                                                                         

8.Orientation of all radiology and diagnostic imaging staff to safety procedures and practices.                                                                     

9.Performing tests to measure staff exposure to radiation using monitors worn by workers or devices placed in the workplace                                                                          

10.Availability of safety protective equipment and devices appropriate to the practices and hazards encountered; in radiology, protective devices and equipment                                                                     

11.Evaluating new equipment or procedures to ensure that they comply with established safety standards; Monitoring the equipment to ensure that it is functioning properly and maintaining logbooks of all readings                                                                         

12Publishing and revising the Radiation Safety Manual as appropriate; performs an annual audit of the Radiation Safety Program                                                                

13.Participates in the review of radiation human-use clinical research protocols to ensure proper disclosure of radiation exposure and ensure compliance with policies and regulations       14.Inspecting work sites for potential hazards related to radiation exposure 

15.Oversees the use of radioactive materials at Hospital facilities through the management of radioactive materials licensing, radiation laboratory survey, and radioactive waste management programs, including keeping documenting storage and disposal records and monitoring effluents; Reviews and approves requests for radiation permits                                                                        

16.Perform leak tests on all radiation producing instruments/equipment registered at the Hospital and maintain records accordingly                                                                        

17.Monitor all activities involving radioactive material, including routine monitoring and special surveys of all areas in which radioactive material is used                                                                           

18.Responds to radiation safety emergencies and prepares and submits required reports
