Job Description
Research Assistant actively participates in retrospective and prospective research projects. He/she assists in the planning and design of research projects, responsible for accurate data retrieval from patients’ charts, organizes data compilation and assists in the control and follow-up of patient flow in prospective studies.
Requirements and Responsibilities
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Laboratory, Nursing, Sciences (e.g. Biology; Biochemistry; Microbiology), from an accredited university. Minimum of two (2) year experience working in the capacity of Lab Technician/Phlebotomist for candidates with a Sciences Degree (Essential).
OR,
- Certification as a COT/COA with minimum of 4 years’ experience working in clinical/ ophthalmic setting (Essential).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists in the planning and development of data retrieval forms for approved research projects. |
2. Assists in data retrieval from patients charts and pathology reports. Organizes and documents patients enrolled for research. |
3. Assists in data analysis; preliminary analysis, mean, medium, average, minimum, and maximum and be familiar with statistical analysis. |
4. Liaises with Medical Records in order to obtain lists of patients involved in research projects and pull all charts. Reviews charts of patients to retrieve and compile data for retrospective and prospective research projects. |
5. Coordinates with KKESH investigators of prospective research projects to control patient flow for accurate follow-up of these patients. |
6. Attends outpatient clinic visits and conducts family interviews for pedigree mapping of patients on research projects. |
7. Collects specimens/ samples such as tears, blood and tissue, etc. for research projects from the clinical laboratory, from OR, and from labs outside KKESH. |
8. Participates in field trips and conducts duties as assigned by the Research Coordinator. |
9. Creates database files, enters, codes and tabulates retrieved data of assigned research projects. |
10. Maintains records of research projects in which he/she is involved. |
11. Participates in field activities when needed. |
12. Performs all duties in a professional, effective and confidential manner. |
13. Performs all other duties as required or assigned. |
