Job Description

  1. Responsible for designing, implementing, and coordinating local, national, and regional epidemiological studies conducted by KKESH&RC, ensuring adherence to high standards of research quality, data integrity, and compliance with institutional and ethical guidelines.

Requirements and Responsibilities

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology or equivalent from an accredited university with minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the above fields, two (2) years of which experience in Research Administrative/ Teaching (Essential).
  • PhD Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology or equivalent from an accredited university (Desirable)
  • Graduate from an accredited school of Medicine with a Medical Doctor (MD) Degree (Desirable).
  • Post graduate accredited training program in Ophthalmology (Desirable).
  • Certified and registered by the SCFHS (Essential).
  1. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1.      Plans, implements, and supervises eye related epidemiologic activities at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital.

2.      Develops strategic plan for ophthalmic epidemiology that aligns with the Ministry of Health and KKESH&RC

3.      Align with the Department of Health Education to develop health educational materials and generates support for increasing the awareness in the community regarding prevention of blinding eye diseases.

4.      Undertakes operational research and national surveys to generate information on eye diseases in collaboration with international agencies and Ministry of Health.

5.      Provide expert guidance on epidemiological methods and best practices within the KKESH&RC.

6.       Analyze complex datasets using advanced statistical methods to identify trends and correlations.

7.       Stay updated with the latest ophthalmic research, methodologies, and advancements in the field of epidemiology to ensure best practices are implemented.

8.       Trains ophthalmology residents and fellows in the principles of epidemiologic research.

9.       Also responsible for mentoring and supporting trainees and staff.

10.    Represents KKESH&RC in the national & international forums.

11.    Supervises maintenance of various registries at KKESH&RC.

12.    Participates as facilitator at national and regional training workshops.

13.    Be active in publishing original research papers in peer reviewed journals.

14.    Works with residents/fellows in developing projects that could be used for their thesis and for publications.

15.    Liaise with the prevention of blindness unit of MOH to strengthen public health program for prevention of blindness.

16.    Applies the King Abdul-Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) grants in the area of epidemiology and public health

17.    Performs all duties in a professional, effective and confidential manner.

18.    Performs all other related duties as required or assigned.
