Job Description
Provides direct patient social support and assists in resolution of patient concerns, serves as an advocate for patients in interfacing with hospital systems and serves as a link between the patient and community services.
Requirements and Responsibilities
- Education / Licensure/ Professional Experience:
- Bachelor Degree in Social Studies from an accredited university (Essential).
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in healthcare facility/hospital setting (Desirable).
- Classified and Registered by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) (Essential).
- Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. |
Demonstrates general knowledge of ophthalmic and general medical conditions. Possesses an in-depth understanding of social/economic evaluations and community resources |

2. |
Demonstrates knowledge and skills required to provide social services support. Activities are implemented in a proactive and organized manner, that indicates critical thinking skills and ability to prioritize. |
|
3. |
Demonstrates the skills required to evaluate the patient's social and economic situation; support/approach is modified according to patient's age, social situation and family status. Identifies indicators of patient or visitor misunderstanding, or dissatisfaction. |
|
4. |
Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the social needs assessments, with ongoing reassessment, planning implementation and evaluation. High-risk families and potential problems are identified, and proactive action is taken. |
|
5. |
Provides social economic evaluation for patients and families; provides appropriate financial assistance, and assistance with housing, transportation, travel. Assists in patient transfers to other medical facilities and community agencies. |
|
4. |
Regular patient rounds are completed and patient request for assistance responded to in a timely manner. Social services are provided within Ambulatory services as required/ requested. Participates in multidisciplinary rounds on assigned unit. Collaborates effectively as a multidisciplinary team member. |

Provides accurate, complete and prompt reports on patient care issues to the Manager, Social Services. Assists in resolution of patient/family concerns. |
|
8. |
Serves as an advocate for the patient in interfacing with hospital systems. Explains clinic and hospital routines; interprets hospital rules, policies, procedures as impacting on the patient's concerns, assists in resolving difficulties related to hospital systems / regulations. |
|
9. |
Provides group information/teaching sessions for inpatients; sessions are well organized, using a variety of teaching tools, and outcomes of learning are measured. |
|
10. |
Documentation is informative, complete, accurate, concise and legible. Documentation follows KKESH standards and reflects the process from needs assessment through evaluation. Patient records are reviewed for deficiencies per protocols. |
|
11. |
Represents the social services department in social programs in the community, as assigned. Provides social services education materials and advice within the scope of the community program. |
|
12. |
Participates in organizing the following events: Social Work Awareness week, patient activities during Eid festivities, Annual Social Services Symposium. |
|
13. |
Assists in the training of Social Worker interns. |
|
14. |
Collects information for hospital study programs and research as requested; collects data and prepares monthly statistics reports. |
|
15. |
Performs all duties in a professional, effective and confidential manner. |
|
16. |
Performs all other related duties as required or assigned. |
